The Solo Exhibition Challenges Viewers to Use Art as Talismans to Discover Personal Truths in Today’s Age of Noise

The Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole will host the opening reception of its popular First Friday Art Show Series on Friday, November 3, 2017, from 5-8 p.m.

The show will feature the debut solo exhibition of Viktor Farro, an Artist Partner of the Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole, and long-time resident of McHenry County.

Titled, “You are Here: A Minimalist Exploration of Symbol, Context and Meaning,” the show presents works created in a modern style that merges the visual language of Geometric Abstraction with color-field and hard-edge Minimalism to explore themes rooted in mythology, philosophy and our personal stories.

“There is so much uncertainty in our time, I began this series of paintings as a way to help us strip away all the noise, and to reconnect with our emotional center, said Viktor Farro. “As a conduit, Minimalism art can help us get to the heart of personal truths and sense of place in the world.”

But Farro admits the use of the popular art style pioneered in the early seventies as a reaction to Abstract Expressionism will seem counter-intuitive—especially to art history enthusiasts.

“When it emerged as a style and movement, Minimalism meant to do away with emotion and meaning in art, and bring focus to the surface, material and color of a work—the purely aesthetic experience of art.

“But its language is perfectly suited to do the opposite: help us sift through our feelings and experiences to reach a profound level of discovery and meaning about our lives,” said Farro.

“You Are Here” will run November 3-20, 2017.
